Q&A - MUFON Alaska
We get a menagerie of questions, so it was decided to set up a Q&A page. Find the form at the bottom of the page to ask us your questions.
1. Is MUFON a government agency?
Nope. MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) was created in 1969 by a group of scientists in the midwest. Currently MUFON is made up of academics, pilots, military/retired military, tradesmen, and other interested people. Click here so you can read about MUFON's History.
2. Why should I report a UFO sighting to MUFON?
MUFON has spent decades developing specific UFO investigation procedures. When a field investigator contacts a person who has reported a sighting, they are out to take a witness statement, collect data, and proceed in a scientific manner.
3. Can I report a UFO anonymously?
Yes. Your personal information will be hidden from the public, but be aware that a field investigator will still contact you to follow through with the sighting report.
4. Can I participate without being a MUFON member?
Yes. We offer occasional public meetings and you can join the Alaska UFOs facebook group. If you are interested in member-only meetings or field investigation, you MUST sign up through MUFON.
5. Are you the Men In Black?
Nope. We are willing to take reports of Men in Black encounters since they're usually tied to UFO sightings.
6. Can I report a Sasquatch sighting?
We recommend that you report any sasquatch sightings to Sasquatch Tracker.
7. Can I report a Ghost or Haunting?
We are not ghost investigators, strictly UFOs. You can always contact IOPIA.
